Achieve a Flawless complexion
For years skin problems such as acne, fine lines and sun damage have been treated with chemical peels and lasers. Now there is a modern, safe and virtually painless alternative.
With over a decade of success in Europe, the Microdermabrasion procedure has been used to treat millions of satisfied people.
The benefits of Medical Microdermabrasion over chemical peels and laser include less pain or discomfort, minimal risk, no recovery time and it is suited for all skin types. Medical Microdermabrasion is setting a new standard for skincare. The procedure is fast, predictable and painless.
The Skin Restoration Procedure
Medical Microdermabrasion uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dead outermost layer of skin. This skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients.
At The Island Cosmetic Clinic, we use a Medical Microdermabrasion machine by Dermagenesis from the USA, a world leader in cosmetic skin treatments. This is not available in spas and salons, and can only be performed under medical supervision. It uses medical grade crystals and has a stronger vacuum, for a deeper exfoliation and hence great results.
Microdermabrasion is commonly used to treat and or diminish:
- Blackheads and Whiteheads
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Sun Damaged Skin
- Acne-prone Skin
- Acne Scarring
- Superficial Age Spots
- Oily Skin
- Dry or Patchy skin
The procedure is performed using a hand piece that passes over the skin two or three times. This evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin, as pictured below.
The underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes the generation of new collagen, which thickens the dermis and improves resistance to the effects of ageing.
The average Microdermabrasion procedure takes less than thirty minutes, depending upon the skin condition, the area to be treated and the desired outcome. Many will notice improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after the first treatment.
The long term benefits of multiple procedures can be remarkable, giving your skin a younger and smoother appearance.
Before & After
Is the Microdermabrasion treatment performed at this clinic similar to the one available in beauty spas and salons?
No. At our clinic, we use a Medical Microdermabrasion machine by Dermagenesis from USA, a world leader in cosmetic skin treatments. This is not available in spas and salons, and can only be performed under medical supervision. It uses medical grade crystals and has a stronger vacuum, for a deeper exfoliation and hence great results.
At your consultation before your Medical Microdermabrasion treatment, you would have a skin scan so that we can assess your skin and advise appropriately to achieve a healthier, younger looking skin.
Would I need a course of five treatments or can I get results with one treatment?
If you have never had Medical Microdermabrasion before, you will need a course of treatment to get the best results. At your consultation your needs will be discussed and the treatment would be tailored for you. With one treatment you will notice that your skin is looking brighter and fresher and some reduction of imperfections will be seen. That will not be enough to achieve the improvements required to your satisfaction, hence the need for a course of treatment.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes. Microdermabrasion is safe when used professionally. Our aestheticians are highly trained and experienced, and take extra care to look after you, and your skin. Microdermabrasion is a low risk treatment suitable for most skin types, with minimal irritation, redness and downtime.
Does Microdermabrasion hurt?
No Microdermabrasion is painless and is very popular with men.
How would I look immediately after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment your face will be slightly red. This will dissapear the same day, and can be covered up using our mineral makeup.
Can you have Microdermabrasion treatment when pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. treatments are not carried out on pregnant or lactating women due to the fact that studies have never been performed on pregnant or lactating women. Therefore our policy is not to do treatments during this period.
Can I go out in the sun after treatment?
We will advise that you should not sunbathe, or over expose your skin in the sun immediately after treatment. A broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen must be worn. Aftercare advice will be given to you before you leave the clinic, so you will know how to take care of your skin.
Is there an age limit on Microdermabrasion?
You are never too old to have Microdermabrasion, as people of all ages can enjoy the benefits.
